Obinna Chilekezi, Damilola Olowe to Headline ANA Osun February Reading

 

OBINNA CHILEKEZI, DAMILOLA OLOWE TO HEADLINE ANA OSUN FEBRUARY READING


 

The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA Osun) is set to host two distinguished creative writers, Obinna Chilekezi and Damilola Olowe, for its February reading. The event is scheduled to take place on February 15, 2024, at Adetuberu Street, after BoVAS Junction, Onward Area, Osogbo, Osun State, by 12 PM.

This was disclosed in a press statement jointly issued by the Chairman and Secretary of ANA Osun, Odetayo Wasiu Mobewaji and Olaonipekun Olatunde. The statement also encouraged both old and new members of the chapter to actively participate by submitting their published works as part of the ongoing ANA Membership Audit. Concerned members are advised to bring their published works and photographs to the meeting for submission.

ABOUT THE GUEST WRITERS

OBINNA CHILEKEZI, PHD, FCIB, FIIN, FWAII

Obinna Chilekezi is the author of three anthologies of poetry, with his works featured in several journals and anthologies. He has over 30 years of experience in the Nigerian insurance industry, having served as the Head of Research and Editor of the Nigeria Insurance Digest at the Nigerian Insurers Association. He has also held positions as Managing Director of two insurance brokerage firms.

A seasoned academic and consultant, Obinna holds a first degree and master’s in insurance, as well as a PhD in entrepreneurship. He currently lectures at Redeemer’s University, Ede; the University of The Gambia, Banjul; and the West African Insurance Institute, The Gambia.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, and the West African Insurance Institute, The Gambia. He has authored twelve books, one of which won the African Insurance Organisation’s Book Award in 2016. His numerous journal articles are published in both professional and academic journals. Obinna also serves as an examiner for several professional bodies and is the Secretary of the Almond Insurance Award Committee. Additionally, he chairs the Editorial Committee of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers and has been a member of the Editorial Committees of both the Nigerian Insurers Association and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.

DAMILOLA OLOWE

Damilola Olowe is a Nigerian writer and literary enthusiast. She is the founder of Afrolite Book Club, an online community dedicated to reading and reviewing African literature. The book club, which boasts members across the continent, has become a vibrant platform for discussing the works of African authors.

Damilola has received significant recognition for her literary contributions. In 2024, she was featured in the British publication Anthropology and was among the top ten finalists for the Iskanchi Book Prize. Passionate about African history, culture, and literature, she seeks to amplify the voices and stories of the African diaspora.

Her love for African literature is reflected in her admiration for notable authors such as Buchi Emecheta, Lola Akerstrom, Ukamaka Olisakwe, Sefi Atta, Chinua Achebe, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Beyond writing, Damilola is a creative at heart, enjoying sketching in her free time.

Through Afrolite Book Club and her literary pursuits, Damilola continues to champion African literature, providing a platform for readers and writers to connect and share their passion for storytelling.
